AIBE – All India Bar Examination | CRACKER is a focused, exam-oriented preparation guide, designed specifically around the practical demands of India's only mandatory licensing examination for advocates. Rather than offering a theoretical treatment of law, this book approaches AIBE preparation as a tactical exercise—teaching candidates not just what the law is, but how to find it, read it, and apply it within the unique constraints of an open-book, multiple-choice examination.
This Edition has been substantially revised to reflect the most recent examination—AIBE-XX (November 2025) and incorporates the landmark shift in India's criminal law framework, covering the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023, and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam 2023, which replace the erstwhile IPC, CrPC, and Indian Evidence Act, respectively.
The Edition also integrates a recent Supreme Court ruling (May 2025) mandating three years of practice before appearing for Civil Judge examinations—establishing fresh context for why clearing the AIBE is now more strategically significant than ever.
This book is intended for the following audience:
- Final-year LL.B. Students (3-year and 5-year integrated courses) who wish to attempt the AIBE without backlogs on their academic record
- Law Graduates Enrolled with State Bar Councils who have a two-year window to clear the examination and obtain the Certificate of Practice (CoP)
- Law Graduates Employed without Enrolment, who face a six-month window and need a high-efficiency preparation resource
- Repeat Aspirants who have previously attempted AIBE and need a structured, strategy-first approach to clear the examination
- Self-study Candidates who need a single, self-contained resource covering examination intelligence, subject-wise guidance, solved papers, and mock tests
No prior deep immersion in law is assumed. The book is explicitly structured to help even those who have not studied their subjects rigorously during their LL.B. programme.
The Present Publication is the 2nd Edition | 2026, authored by Adv. Kartik Kaushik and Adv. Himanshu Nagpal, with the following noteworthy features:
-
Examination Intelligence Before Subject Matter – The book opens not with legal content but with a complete strategic briefing on AIBE itself, its regulatory background, eligibility categories, registration process, exam format (100 MCQs, 3 hours, open-book, no negative marking), passing thresholds (45% for GEN/OBC; 40% for SC/ST/PwD), and how withdrawn questions affect the numerical pass mark. Candidates enter their preparation knowing exactly what the examination expects
-
A Dedicated Guide to Reading Bare Acts – One of the book's most distinctive contributions is a structured, visual tutorial on how to read Bare Acts—the only permissible reference material in the examination hall. Using annotated figures and step-by-step explanation, the authors break down every component of a Bare Act: the title, preamble, chapter divisions, definitions, sections and sub-sections, provisos, exceptions, explanations, footnotes, illustrations, and schedules. This is not generic legal guidance; it is navigation training calibrated specifically to AIBE question types
-
Question-wise Answering Strategies with Real Paper Examples – Chapter 3 presents a proprietary three-tier question taxonomy—Easy, Medium, and Hard, and provides worked examples drawn directly from past AIBE papers (primarily AIBE-XIX and AIBE-XX) to demonstrate how each category should be approached. Specific techniques include:
- The Act → Chapter → Section → Sub-section → Proviso → Explanation navigation hierarchy
- Keyword identification for locating provisions without direct statutory references
- The Elimination Method for narrowing answer choices
- The Cross-Question Referring Method for resolving ambiguity
- Scenario-based question analysis using a four-step judge-like reasoning framework
- Footnote exploitation for amendment and enforcement date questions
-
Visual Charts and Examples Throughout – The book uses a substantial number of figures—scanned reproductions of actual Bare Act pages, annotated layouts, structural diagrams, and question-walkthrough illustrations, to make abstract guidance concrete. Students can see exactly what a proviso looks like in the BNS, what an enforcement date footnote looks like in the Constitution, and how elimination logic maps onto actual options in past papers
-
In-Depth Analysis of AIBE-XX (November 2025) – Before presenting the AIBE-XX solved paper, the book provides a dedicated decoding of the examination pattern: subject-wise distribution of questions, difficulty calibration, commonly tested provisions, and strategic takeaways for AIBE-XXI aspirants. This analysis is embedded throughout Division Two as well, with AIBE-XX questions tagged at the relevant provisions in the subject-wise guide
-
Comprehensive Subject-wise Tagging Across All Previous Papers – Throughout Division Two, every significant legal principle, case law, and provision is cross-referenced to the AIBE edition in which it was tested—from AIBE-IX through AIBE-XX. This transforms the subject guide into an active frequency map, allowing candidates to identify high-recurrence topics and prioritise accordingly
-
Previous Year Solved Papers—Ten Editions – Division Three contains fully solved question papers from AIBE-X (March 2017) through AIBE-XX (November 2025), providing eleven years of examination history. Each paper is presented with answers, enabling targeted self-assessment and revision
-
Three Full-Length Mock Tests – Division Four provides three complete mock test papers, structured identically to the actual AIBE format (100 MCQs), enabling timed practice under examination conditions
The coverage of the book is as follows:
-
Division One — Introduction to AIBE
- A complete orientation module covering: the purpose and regulatory basis of AIBE under the Advocates Act, 1961 and BCI Rules; the seven key benefits of clearing the examination (Certificate of Practice, lifetime validity, judicial service eligibility, multi-jurisdiction practice rights, and more); the distinction between provisional enrolment and post-AIBE status; eligibility categories in detail; the registration and document submission process; exam format and marking scheme; subject-wise question distribution across all 19 tested subjects; and the authors' proprietary strategies for time management and question-answering.
-
Division Two — Subject-Wise Guide to AIBE
- The core reference section covers all 19 subjects tested in AIBE, with the question weight for each as per the prescribed syllabus. Each subject chapter presents key principles, landmark cases, statutory provisions, and doctrines, with past-paper question tags embedded at point of relevance
-
Division Three — Previous AIBE Solved Papers (AIBE-X to AIBE-XX)
- Eleven years of fully solved papers, with AIBE-XX (November 2025) receiving a dedicated pattern-decoding section
-
Division Four — Mock Test Papers
- Three full-length mock tests (100 MCQs each)
The book follows a deliberate four-division architecture designed to move the reader from examination awareness → skill acquisition → subject knowledge → examination practice:
-
Division One builds the strategic foundation. Before the candidate opens a Bare Act, they understand the examination's rules, their own eligibility, what the paper looks like, and exactly how to approach it. This inverts the conventional approach of diving straight into subject matter
-
Division Two is the knowledge base—but it is not a standard legal commentary. It is written as a reference layer calibrated to AIBE question types, with past-paper tags integrated so the reader is constantly aware of what has actually been tested
-
Division Three operationalises the knowledge through examination history. The progression from AIBE-XX (most recent, with dedicated analysis) backwards to AIBE-X (earliest) is deliberate: candidates first understand the current examination's pattern before studying older papers
-
Division Four closes the loop with full-scale simulated examination conditions
